This resource is a non-fiction comprehension activity for year 2. It is all about castles! The booklet is based on the KS1 SATs reading paper and includes 3 differentiated levels. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘how,’ ‘who’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The activity is also laid out in a similar way to the SATs booklets, with four pages of pictures and short written extracts to read and 3-4 questions per page. Answers are also included. All of the PDF booklets are in the zip file. There is a colour and black & white version for each level.

A collection of 10 worksheets, 10 activities and 10 starters (in the form of a PowerPoint) to use with your year 6 class in the run-up to SATs. The ten topics covered are those that my class were finding difficult, so I decided they needed a bit of extra revision! The worksheets use questions that are based on the SATs SPaG papers, plus a few extras. The activities are perfect for group work and prepare your class for SATs in a more interactive way. The slideshow can be used for fillers, starters or plenaries. You can also put the three together to make 30 minute lessons on these tricky topics! For example, start with the slideshow to recap prepositions, before splitting your class into groups to do the interactive activity. Finish with an individual worksheet to check each child’s understanding. A collection of 3 practice SATs SPaG papers for year 6. All three papers are based on a past SPaG paper 1. Each practice paper contains 50 questions focussing on a range of punctuation and grammar. Answers are also included. This includes tenses, sentence types, semi-colons, colons, brackets, hyphens, commas, subordinate clauses, prefixes, word classes, apostrophes, pronouns, synonyms and antonyms. The questions are formatted in the same way as the SATs papers, so the children are asked to circle, tick, fill in the missing gap and write full sentences. It is all about habitats and covers what a habitat is, followed by a short look at deserts, oceans, cities, rainforests, woodlands and seashores. It is split into 3 differentiated levels. There is a different booklet for each level. Each booklet contains a title page with helpful words, followed by four pages of pictures with short written extracts to read and 2-3 questions per page. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘how,’ ‘which’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. Answers are also included. A 5 lesson literacy unit based around Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The unit is aimed at year 3 and 4 and gives details of the curriculum objectives covered. The children develop reading comprehension, speaking, planning, writing, editing and SPaG skills during the unit. This is achieved through varied, fun and interactive activities. All five lessons include a SPaG or composition starter, which is always linked to *Romeo and Juliet. * The main activity in lesson 1 is a reading comprehension of a simplified version of the play. It is differentiated 3 ways. The main activity in lesson 2 allows children to practise their performance skills. Lesson 3 allows children to begin learning playwriting skills, whilst in lessons 4 and 5, they plan and write their own play or scene, based on Shakespeare’s play. All lessons include details of how to differentiate. All resources needed in the lessons are included. There is also a PowerPoint presentation of the story. PERFECT FOR USING DURING SHAKESPEARE WEEK. The theme this year is ‘Reading is Magic’ and so I have chosen books that have a magical element or are from the fantasy genre. These are followed by one question on each of the books in the CBCA 2024 short list for ages 7-12. You can use this as a starter, an assembly, a filler or a main activity. All questions are multiple choice and focus on popular modern books as well as classics. After you have chosen an answer for each question, click again and the correct answer changes colour. The story is a romance and comedy and covers the themes of love, mistaken identities and magic. The story has been adapted so that is is suitable for ages 7-9. A set of 10 PowerPoint activities to help prepare your class for the Phonics Screening Check. Each PowerPoint includes 40 words, one on each slide. 20 words are pretend or ‘alien’ words and 20 are real words. They are organised in the same way as the screening check, starting with four simple phase 2 words, before moving on to phase 3, 4 and 5 and concluding with more complex words. An enjoyable five day poetry unit to use with KS1 during the summer term. During the unit, children have the opportunity to read, study and learn two poems; one about water and one about the beach. They take a seasonal walk on day 3, in which they gather vocabulary, before spending two days writing their own poetry.
